SPILLMAN | BLACKWELL is a gallery and consultancy featuring a diverse roster of artists, ranging from emerging to seasoned talent. In addition to fine art in a wide variety of media and processes, we offer services to the trade, artists, and other galleries & institutions.

Conceived by longtime best friends with a combined 27 years of gallery experience, SPILLMAN | BLACKWELL seeks to promote its artists locally and beyond, with a focus on providing the New Orleans area with dependable art services at a reasonable price.

A graduate in art from Xavier University with a focus in painting and photography, Leslie-Claire Spillman has worked as a gallerist and professional photographer in New Orleans for over 16 years. The longtime Director of Soren Christensen Gallery, Spillman curated hundreds of shows for the space in her tenure there, with a personal sales record well in the millions. As a professional photographer for almost as long, Spillman employed her photography skills as the primary photographer for the gallery, shooting most of the artwork images and installation imagery for the space, including client installations and interiors for the trade and corporate clients. She was also the sole graphic designer for the gallery, creating all of the printed materials produced in her time there, including show cards and advertisements.

Amy Blackwell graduated from Southern University and A&M College with a concentration in History, relocating to New Orleans to apprentice at Silverman Studios under the late famed sculptor Dr. Arthur Silverman. Blackwell then honed her 10+ years of art handling and installation experience as the chief logistics manager at Soren Christensen Gallery. In her time with the gallery, Blackwell hung and lit well over 100 exhibitions for the space, and numerous artwork installations in client homes and corporate spaces. She was responsible for all of the packing of sold and returned works for the gallery, giving her a wealth of expertise in crating and packing works of all media and sizes. She also cultivated a successful side-business specializing in artwork and other special item logistics, transporting works for artists, galleries, and museums nationwide.

Together, Spillman and Blackwell have a combined skill set that covers every aspect of the gallery business, with extensive practice in their respective areas of expertise. Both sit on the board as officers of the New Orleans Arts District Association, with Spillman as President and Blackwell as Treasurer, and are active in planning programing and events for the district year-round. Having worked successfully side by side running a gallery for many years, they seek to establish this new venture and employ the same quality of work, assisting the regional art community and beyond.
